The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) is a South African government initiative that provides financial aid to eligible students to help cover the costs of their tertiary education.
- To apply for NSFAS (National Student Financial Aid Scheme) funding for the 2025 academic year, Recent Updates: NSFAS has recently updated its list of provisionally funded applicants and is currently accepting applications for the 2025 academic year. Applications will close on December 15, 2024
Check Eligibility
Ensure you meet the NSFAS eligibility criteria: NSFAS funding is available to South African citizens and permanent residents with a combined household income of not more than R350,000 per annum. For students with disabilities, the income threshold is R600,000 per annum
- – South African citizen
– Registered or intending to register at a South African public university or TVET college
– Family income below R350,000 per annum (for students with disabilities, R600,000)
– Not exceeding 26 years of age for first-time entrants
Gather Required Documents ,Have the following documents ready:
- – ID document
– Birth certificate
– Parent/guardian ID documents (if dependent)
– Proof of income (pay slips, SASSA grant confirmation, or affidavit)
– Disability documentation (if applicable)
Step 3: Create an Account
Application Process: To apply, students need to create a myNSFAS profile on the NSFAS website, complete the required information, and submit their application
Go to (https://www.nsfas.org.za/content/how-to-apply.html) and:
1. Click “Apply”
2. Select “Register”
3. Fill in the registration form
4. Verify your email address
Complete the Application Log in to your account and:
Click “Apply for Funding”
Fill in the online application form
Upload required documents
Submit your application
Track Your Application After submission:
- Log in to your account
- Check your application status
- Receive updates via email/SMS
Important Dates:
– Application opening date: Typically around September
– Application closing date: December 2024
All applicants Should check their application status on the myNSFAS portal. NSFAS has recently updated its list of provisionally funded applicants due to a significant increase in funding.
